Application Details

Selection Procedure

The number of participants is strictly limited to ensure an efficient interaction between students and lecturers. We will accept a maximum of 122 students or post-docs and 30 principal investigators. Participants will be primarily selected on the basis of submitted abstracts. A maximum number of students per research group or laboratory may be instated.

Registration Fees

The registration fees are 770,- Euro for students and postdocs, 1050,- € for academic principal investigators and 1.500,- € for participants from industry. The registration fees include roundtrip shuttle transportation from Innsbruck Airport or Wörgl train station to Alpbach and full board and lodging (6 nights) at the venue. No payments may be made before notification of acceptance has been received from the organizers.

FEBS Fellowships & YTF Grants

Up to 30 FEBS YTF (Youth Travel Fund) grants plus 2 YTF grants for African students covering travel, registration fee and full board for 6 nights will be available for students and postdoctoral fellows (within 5 years after obtaining their PhD) working in an academic institution of higher learning in any FEBS member country. UpdateFor accepted FEBS YTF Grant recipients: The arrangements for your travel to and from the course should be arranged by yourself. A letter with the official FEBS YTF form is mailed to you by certified mail. You should receive that letter by the end of the first week of February. The London FEBS-office will reimburse the travel expenses to you directly after they have received the signed form from you with all the details. Reimbursement will be done most of the time within 4 weeks. Questions regarding the reimbursement should be asked the London FEBS office. The registration fee for the course will be paid directly to us by FEBS.

Eligibility, Conditions & Restrictions:

Student/postdoctoral applicants must be members of a FEBS Constituent society (see List of societies at WWW.FEBS.ORG) and submit via the online registration system:

  1. submit online an abstract as a first author.
  2. submit online a CV of maximal 1 page in PDF format.
  3. apply online in the registration system for a YTF Grant.

Applications for YTF grants as well as abstracts and CVs must be submitted at the same time through the online registration system.

Furthermore, applicants must send by e-mail or by sending it through the post to the FEBS-SysBio2009 Meeting Office not later than November 28, 2008:

  1. a verification of a FEBS constituent society membership (on society letterhead signed by the responsible office of the constituent society). Please write your name and as subject "FEBS-SysBio2009: FEBS membership confirmation" on the coversheet of the fax.
  2. two signed letters of reference from mentors/supervisors also confirming the status as a student/postdoctoral researcher. Please write your name and as subject "FEBS-SysBio2009: YTF grant reference letter" on the coversheet of the fax.
