ABC PROTEINS & DRUG RESISTANCE

Because most if not all characterized human genes encoding ABC proteins have been intimately associated with severe genetic diseases or are otherwise of medical importance, we are dedicated to establish a new topic devoted to the functional analysis of thus far uncharacterized human ABC protein genes and their mammalian (mouse) homologues. Because of their potential pharmacological and/or medical implications, we shall close in on the role of ABC proteins or transporters present in hepatic, intestinal and brain tissues. We are particularly interested to set up and pursue interdisciplinary and systems biology-based approaches to study the role hepatic drug uptake, detoxification, perhaps drug resistance, as well as neurotoxicity and genetic diseases if applicable.
