Symposia

NewThe detailed scientific programme can be downloaded as a PDF (Updated Feb. 11, 2008).

ABC2008 will cover the following major topics:

  • Symposium 1: Biogenesis, Trafficking & Processing of ABC Proteins
    (Chair - Susan Michaelis)
  • Symposium 2: Modulation & Regulation of ABC Protein Function
    (Chair - Karl Kuchler)
  • Symposium 3: ABC Proteins in Multidrug Resistance & Pharmacology
    (Chair - Christine Hrycyna)
  • Symposium 4: ABC Genes in Physiology & Pathology of Disease
(Chairs - Victor Ling & Giovanna Chimini)
  • Special Satellite Symposium: Cystic Fibrosis & PXE – From Basic Biology to Patients & Therapy
(Chairs - Jack Riordan, Martina Gentzsch & Sharon and Pat Terry)
  • Symposium 5: Catalytic Mechanisms & Structure of ABC Proteins
(Chair - Robert Ford & John Hunt)

Finally, the Keynote Opening Lecture (Shinji Yokohama), the ABC2008 Keynote Lecture (Robert Tampé) and the Final Keynote Address (Lydia Aguilar-Bryan) will further enrich ABC2008.

Workshop on Structure of ABC Proteins

A special workshop will discuss the need for more high-resolution structures to be generated from ABC proteins operating in various organisms, and how problems associated with obtaining large quantities of functional ABC proteins may be overcome. Key scientists working on ABC protein structures will participate.

Special CFTR & PXE Satellite Symposia

Supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations in America and Europe, the Physiological Society United Kingdom and PXE International, ABC2008 has invited the leading scientists from all over the world for a ONE-Day sattelite symposium on CFTR and PXE, addressing all issues around the underlying diseases, from basic mechanisms to patient needs, as well as novel routes to improved therapy.

Oral Presentations

Principal investigators will deliver “Workshop Talks” of 20 min. Students & Postdoctoral fellows will give “Short Talks” of 12 min. The SAB shall select all oral presentations for afternoon and evening sessions based on submitted abstracts.

NewPlease deliver your presentation on a USB-Stick the day before your talk is sheduled. A pre-view room will be available for test-runs. We will supply OS X and Windows XP Laptops for presentations. Available software includes Adobe Acrobat 8, Keynote (OS X), Microsoft Office (Win: 2003, OS X: 2004), OpenOffice 2.3 as well as Quicktime and common audio/video codecs. For any special requirements please contact us under info@febs-abc2008.org.

Poster Sessions

NewThe poster session is and has always been a vital part of the conference. All abstracts not selected for oral presentations will be on display as posters during the entire meeting to give ample time for informal discussions among students, senior scientists from academia and industry. The maximum allowed size for a poster is 120cm height by 90cm width (=47 x 35 inches).

ABC2008 Young Investigator Awards

All abstracts submitted by graduate students or postdoctoral fellows as first authors are subject to scientific evaluation by selected SAB members. The best 6 abstracts will be awarded a cash prize, the "ABC2008 Young Investigator Award" at the end of the conference.
